The L5p was a very small exhaust side configuration, small up pipes, small exhaust turbo vanes, etc. So I am guessing the ECM was seeing some very high EGT’s and cut power to keep from melting pistons. I had set the trip odometer the day I bought it and it's averaging almost 17, including some mild camper towing. Personally, I would never consider long-term ownership of a modern diesel with emissions intact. Regular maintenance needs to be documented at required intervals and you need to replace all external parts as needed but good piece of mind on internal failure.
