IMO, the best time to come is late September/early October. Given your ages and comments you've made on this thread and others, I think that four nights in Springdale/Zion is at least one night too many. If you want to avoid crowds, then you need to visit Zion in the off season - December thru mid March.Go to the Zion Park forum and look at the posts there. Was just there in April and parking in town is $40. You then take the Springdale CIty shuttle to the Park entrance and then you can board the Park Service Shuttle (free) if you want to go into the park and ride to various shuttle stops. 1. Re: narrows in late september. You should be fine walking up the narrows with those shoes in September.There is usually a pile of walking sticks at the mouth of the canyon at the start of the hike. They definately help, as it can be like walking on greasy bowling balls.
